Richard Williams - BVetMed, MRCVS - Veterinary Surgeon and Director
With deep familial ties in the Rye area, Richard originally came to the Practice even before his qualification which was in 1983.
Richard worked in several practices including a period in specialist equine work all over the world before returning to his roots and joining the Practice in 1989.

Richard quickly became a director, and has continued to devote all his efforts to the development of the Practice.
Richard has been at the heart of the development of the Practice for many years.  In 2001 he led the way on the development of Kingsnorth Surgery and since then was integral to the joining of forces with Milbourn Equine and the development of our clinic in Sevington.  Richard continues to enjoy most of all contact with his clients and patients alike; and although surgery will always be his “forte” he also equally enjoys equine work.
Richard lives locally with his wife and four children.  In his spare time he enjoys swimming and sailing along with lifelong interests in architecture and photography.



Sharon Marsh - BVetMed MRCVS - Veterinary Surgeon and Director
Sharon joined Cinque Ports Vets in 1993 as a new Graduate initially working at our Rye and Lydd branches. Sharon developed her interests in small animal medicine and surgery and in 2009 became a Director of Cinque Ports Vets and Milbourn Equine. She is responsible for our Kingsnorth, Lydd, Tenterden and Wye surgeries.

In her spare time Sharon and her husband Simon enjoy spending time with their two sons Will and Ed. Sharon enjoys sailing her laser from Rye Harbour sailing club with the family, surfing and walking her dogs Fred and Lottie.



Howard Newitt – BVetMed, CertEP, MRCVS Advanced Practitioner in Equine Practice - Veterinary Surgeon and Director
Howard qualified in 1995 and attained the RCVS Certificate in Equine Practice in 2000. Howard is an FEI listed vet for both eventing and reining. As a keen rider regularly taking part in eventing and bloodhounding, Howard has a particular interest in problems of the performance horse. Howard is on the JMB Measuring panel and is a local authority riding school inspector. Howard spends part of his time advising several well-known insurance brokers and underwriters.



David McDonald - BVM&S MRCVS - Veterinary Surgeon and Director
David graduated from the Royal (Dick) Veterinary College, Edinburgh before joining Cinque Ports Veterinary Group in Rye.  Following an 18 month term there he completed an internship at Rossdales & directors, Newmarket where he was responsible for admission and management of critically ill hospital patients, general anaesthesia and lameness diagnosis.  David returned to Kent as an assistant to Peter Cantor before purchasing Milbourn Equine in 2004.  David is a JMB Official measurer and was a Senior Veterinary Surgeon at Folkestone Racecourse until its closure in December 2012.  Outside work David keeps himself busy managing his menagerie of horses, dogs and cats with his wife Anna and children Maddie & Archie.



Small Animal Vets




Vanessa Martin - BVM&S.MRCVS - Veterinary Surgeon
Vanessa graduated in 1991 from Edinburgh. She began practicing in Yorkshire and then in the local area in 1996, joining us at Kingsnorth in September 2004. She to is kept busy by her family and pets, with a passion for riding and competing.



Jillian Hall - B.VetMed.CertAVP (VetGP )MRCVS - Veterinary Surgeon

Jillian graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2004. She has practiced in the local area since then, joining our Kingsnorth branch in 2009. Jillian gained her certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice in 2012, inspired by her particular interest in surgery. 




Esther Masso - MRCVS - Veterinary Surgeon
Esther joined us in February 2009 and is based predominantly at our Tenterden surgery. Esther has been working in Kent for over 10 years following qualifying in 1994, and has an interest in Acupuncture.

Richard Best - BVMS MRCVS - Veterinary Surgeon
Richard graduated from Glasgow in 1984. He began his veterinary career in a mixed practice in South Wales moving to Ashford, where he has practiced for over 20 years. Richard joined the team at Kingsnorth in 2009, taking a sabbatical in 2011. He now provides holiday cover for Cinque Ports Vets and in his semi retirement he has a particular interest in Arctic culture, having travelled around Greenland and Arctic Canada.

Jenny Murrell - BVetMed.MRCVS - Veterinary Surgeon
Jenny graduated from The Royal Veterinary College in 2010. Jenny joined our Kingsnorth branch in 2012 and divides her time between our Kingsnorth and Wye branches. In her spare time she enjoys photography with her partner, Andy and also horse riding. Jenny is also kept busy looking after her two cats and Herbie the dog.

Mark Neall - BVSc CertVC CertAVP (SAM) MRCVS Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Medicine - Veterinary Surgeon
Mark graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2004. He enjoys all aspects of his work and has obtained RCVS post graduate certificates in both cardiology and small animal medicine. Mark lives in Ashford with his family, two cats, a tortoise and tropical fish, and in his spare time enjoys fishing, gardening and astronomy. Having initially joined our Kingsnorth branch in 2010, Mark rejoined us in 2014.



Alice Lovegrove-BVM&S MRCVS-Veterinary Surgeon
Alice graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2013. After graduation she spent the summer as a volunteer veterinarian in the townships of Cape Town, South Africa. After returning to the UK, Alice spent a year working in a busy small animal practice in Cornwall. She has now returned to the South East and started work for Cinque Ports Vets in 2015. Her time is divided between our Kingsnorth and Lydd branches. When not working Alice is kept busy with her 3 dogs, cat and rabbit.



Yohann Glennie - BVetMed MRCVS - Veterinary Surgeon
Yohann qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in London in 2002 , and has been working in practices in Manchester, London and Kent since.  He enjoys all aspects of caring for animals. When not working , he enjoys spending time with his young daughter, energetic Springer Spaniel and adventurous cat, as well as cycling and rowing when time permits!





Luca Gaffuri - DMV, MRCVS, GPCert(Endo) - Veterinary Surgeon

Luca graduated  from the University of Milan, Italy in 2006 and became a member of the RCVS after completing an internship at the University of Washington State in the United States. Luca worked in a mixed practice in the Brecon Beacons in Wales for a short while before moving to Kent where he has practiced for the last 8 years.  During these years he developed an interest in minimally invasive surgery and achieved a GP certificate in endoscopy and endosurgery. Luca joined Cinque Ports Vets in 2016.
Luca has a private pilot’s licence and in his spare time enjoys flying over the Kent countryside.  He also enjoys travelling, sea fishing and gardening.


 James Whitlock - BSc(Hons) BVetMed(Hons) MRCVS - Veterinary Surgeon

James graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2015 and joined our Kingsnorth team in 2016. He likes all aspects of small animal first opinion practice with a particular interest in medicine. James is a massive rugby fan and spends most of his spare time watching it with his two dogs Bert and Bumble. 






Tina Boyden - BVM&S BSc MRCVS - Veterinary Surgeon

Having graduated from Edinburgh Vet School in 2009, Tina spent her early career working as a small animal vet in Scotland. However, her English roots and the sunshine did persuade her to make a move back down South a couple of years ago and she is now enjoying the country life. Tina joined Cinque Ports Vets in 2016. Keeping her and her fiancé Michael company at home are Binky and Roxy, the Jack Russell's and three chickens. Tina can mostly be found out and about riding her thoroughbred Assi, walking with the dogs, or battling with the weeds in the garden. Although Roxy is now retired, Binky is stepping up to take her place on the annual long distance walk and will hopefully notch up as many trails as Roxy did.

Karren Casswell

Karen Casswell - BVScBSc CertVOphthal MRCVS - Consultant Ophthalmologist

Karen provides our ophthalmology service at all surgeries by special appointment. Karen holds the RCVS certificate in Veterinary Ophthalmology and has treated a wide range of complex problems in domestic pets, horses and alpacas for us.





Elise Robertson - BS BVetMed MACVSc (Feline) DipABVP(Feline) MRCVS -
American Board Certified Specialist Feline Practice

Elise graduated cum laude from Colorado State University with a BSc in Biological
Sciences/Anatomy & Neurophysiology. She relocated to the UK in 1998 to study
veterinary medicine at the Royal Veterinary College, University of London. She
graduated with honours in 2003 and instead of moving back to the USA, she ended up
staying permanently in the UK! She was later awarded Membership ANZCVSc
(Feline) in 2008 and Diplomate status from the American Board of Veterinary
Practitioners (ABVP) in 2012. She is one of three American Board Certified
Specialists in Feline Practice in Europe. She currently operates a visiting feline
referral and endoscopy consultancy service for veterinary practices in SE England.
Her professional interests include medical endoscopy and endosurgery ('keyhole
surgery'). She's received her formal training, from both veterinary and human
consultant surgeons in the USA, Germany, France, and the UK. In her spare time, she
enjoys playing the cello, travelling, running events (10K + half marathons), and
