The thyroid is made up of two glands located on either side of the windpipe of your cat's neck. It helps to regulate metabolic rate. In some cats, the thyroid becomes overactive which speeds up the metabolism. Hyperthyroidism mainly affects older cats and can occur in either or both of the glands.
Don't forget dogs die in hot cars. On a warm day your car heats up like an oven. When its 22C outside, it reaches 47C inside a car within 60 minutes. Don't take the risk.
We would like to introduce Solo who we first saw at our Kingsnorth branch as an emergency out of hours, after being attacked by a couple of dogs whilst out for a walk. Solo was in shock, with multiple large, deep vertical wounds to her chest, exposing her tissue and ribs below.
Walk your dogs in the morning or the evening-before 8am and after 5pm is best. Not only will this prevent them overheating in the midday sun, but hot road surfaces, pavements and sand can burn paws.

Wye recently held a Charity Ball to raise money for MIND in memory of Christian Smith who was killed in March while cycling for the charity. Cinque Ports Vets and other local businesses provided table sponsorships for the event. The event was a huge success and raised over £5000.
Our vet Sharon Marsh paid a visit to the newly opened Wye School recently to talk to their Science Class. The students from A set were shown many X-rays and Sharon gave anecdotes about different conditions she has treated in a variety of small animals. The students were fascinated and asked many questions about these and their own pets. Thank you to Wye School for making Sharon so welcome.
Mabel came to visit one of our veterinary nurses, Katherine, for a free weight club consultation at our Tenterden branch, as her owner was aware that her weight was increasing.
